SHIMMY'S SHAKEN

To love is to suffer. To avoid suffering one must not love. But then one suffers from not loving. Therefore, to love is to suffer. Not to love is to suffer. To suffer is to suffer. To be happy is to love. To be happy, then, is to suffer. But suffering makes one unhappy. Therefore, to be happy one must love, or love to suffer, or suffer from too much happiness.

myconversation:

As of 1/3/2012 it will have been two year since my Father’s sudden passing and to celebrate his life and memory I have the distinct pleasure of presenting a recently discovered original song by my Pop’s, Duane Suomi.

“All The Killing” was recorded sometime in 2008 in my home studio. He never liked the vocals he cut, so it just sort of sat on the back burner until we totally forgot about it. He didn’t hold a very high opinion of himself, artistically speaking, and was privy to writing, recording … and then deleting.

Recently I was thrilled to discover the vocal scratch track he laid down one night. Although I’m sure if he inhabited the Earth today he’d still be trying to lay down a “Killer Vocal” but in light of the situation, I think this one sounds pretty good.

Pay close attention to the late 00’s cultural references. Most of the people referenced are still causing problems. The lyric is quintessential Pop’s. Sardonic yet charming.

Here to my Dad, the Tupac of Melbourne, Florida… Or maybe Biggie is a better analogy…

He did always love it when you called him Big Papa.

Just found this gem. Wasn’t a wasted “staying up way too late watching random youtube videos even though i have to get up in the morning” kinda night. Phew!

EDITORS NOTE: I’ve watched it twice.

Sky on fire. Was having a pretty bland day before I saw this. It slapped me in the face with a much-needed moment of clarity. There is beauty in every day. Sometimes you have to look for it, and sometimes it screams out from above, but I promise you, it’s there.

It’s finally here. 11/11/11. Nigel Tufnel Day. The only day of the century that rocks hard enough to be turned all the way up to 11.
We asked NPR listeners for the songs you crank to 11 and we got a few undeniable eardrum busters.
We also made a Spotify playlist of 550 songs compiled from your nominations, just in case you want to crank the volume all day.

Yesssss

Join us Friday, November 11 at 4:00pm for a special screening of Vanishing of the Bees, a compelling look at the economic, political and ecological impact of the disappearance of the honeybees. The film is a part of a new series called The Green Screen hosted in collaboration with Mrs. Mango & Company, CoalWar.com, and Brick & Mortar. We will be screening an environmental documentary every Sunday afternoon from 1:00pm - 4:00pm in conjunction with our newest exhibition, “Coal War”.

Come for the film, short discussion, and stay for the art and opening night of “Coal War”.
